Black Collection Belico Hat | Premium Wool Felt Fedora
Our Black Belico Hat is a refined fedora built from premium wool felt that holds its shape season after season. We designed it for the person who values understated elegance—whether you’re heading to an evening event or simply adding structure to a weekend look. The 100% wool felt body is water-resistant and breathable, while the Italian grosgrain ribbon band delivers a subtle contrast that catches light without announcing itself.

We source our wool felt from a mill in Portugal that’s been producing hat bodies since 1952. The fiber blend uses medium-grade merino wool, which gives the Black Belico Hat a tight felt density—tight enough to shed light rain but breathable enough that you won’t overheat when you step indoors. After the felt is cut, we treat it with a water-repellent finish that doesn’t alter the matte texture.

Sizing guide & fit adjustments
Measure your head circumference just above your eyebrows and ears, then match that measurement to our size chart. If you fall between sizes, we recommend sizing up—the leather sweatband will conform to your exact head shape after a few wears, creating a custom fit that doesn’t require an adjuster strap.
When the hat arrives
The crown may look slightly taller than expected because it hasn’t been compressed by wear yet. Once you’ve worn it a handful of times, the natural oils from your skin will soften the sweatband and the crown will settle into its final profile. If you need immediate adjustment, a professional hatter can add foam sizing tape to the interior band, but most customers find this unnecessary after the break-in period.

Styling versatility across occasions
The black belico hat works as a neutral anchor in both formal and casual outfits. We see customers wearing it with everything from a charcoal wool overcoat and oxford shoes to a denim jacket and white sneakers. The key is balancing proportions—if you’re wearing a structured jacket, the hat’s crisp lines echo that tailoring; if you’re in softer fabrics like flannel or knit, the hat adds definition without feeling out of place.
For evening events, pair it with a dark suit and leave the brim unturned—the flat brim reads more modern than a traditional snap-brim fedora. For daytime, you can experiment with a slight upward tilt at the back, which opens up your face and feels less formal. The grosgrain band is subtle enough that it doesn’t compete with patterned shirts or textured sweaters.

Questions about the Black Belico Hat
Measure your head circumference with a soft measuring tape placed about one finger-width above your eyebrows and ears. Compare that measurement in inches to our size chart: Small fits 21½–22 inches, Medium fits 22⅛–22¾ inches, Large fits 23–23½ inches, and X-Large fits 23⅝–24¼ inches. If you fall between sizes, order the larger size—the leather sweatband will mold to your head shape after a few wears and create a custom fit.
Yes, the wool felt is treated with a water-repellent finish that sheds light rain and drizzle. You can wear it in wet weather without worrying about permanent water spots or shape distortion. If the hat gets soaked, let it air-dry on a flat surface away from direct heat sources. Avoid submerging it in water or leaving it in heavy downpours for extended periods, as that can overwhelm the water-repellent coating.
Store your Black Belico Hat on a flat surface or a wide-brimmed hat stand to maintain its shape. Never hang it by the crown or leave it resting on the brim, as both positions can distort the felt over time. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. If you’re traveling, use the included cotton canvas pouch to protect it in your luggage.
The wool felt body will maintain its size and shape with proper care. The leather sweatband will soften and conform slightly to your head shape during the first few weeks of wear, which improves comfort without changing the overall hat size. Avoid exposing the hat to high heat, which can cause the felt to shrink unevenly. Normal wear and storage won’t cause stretching.
Use a soft-bristle clothes brush and stroke gently in the direction of the felt grain, moving counterclockwise around the crown. For light dust on the underside of the brim, a lint roller works well. Never use water or liquid cleaners on the felt surface, as they can leave spots or alter the texture. If you encounter a stubborn stain, consult a professional hat cleaner rather than attempting home remedies.
All hats in the Belico collection use the same wool felt quality, Italian grosgrain band, leather sweatband, and blocking techniques. The primary difference is color—each shade is designed to pair with different wardrobe palettes. The black version is the most versatile and formal option, working equally well with business attire and casual outfits. Lighter shades like tan and sand read more casual, while navy and charcoal offer middle-ground versatility.
Yes, you can reshape the hat using steam. Hold it over steam from a boiling kettle for 20 to 30 seconds, keeping the felt about six inches above the spout. Once the felt becomes pliable, use your hands to reshape the crown and flatten the brim. Let the hat cool and dry completely on a flat surface before wearing it again. Avoid using an iron directly on the felt, as concentrated heat can scorch the fibers.
